Laurent Taquin

In the early 80s, after studying mime with Fugyo Ishimaru and Commedia dell’Arte with Franco Dragone in Brussels, Laurent Taquin embarked on training in acrobatics, juggling and dance. At the same time his discovery of free jazz led him to throw himself into self-study of the saxophone from 1985 onwards. Inspired by these fruitful years of experimentation and encouraged by Fabrizio Cassol from Aka Moon, Laurent Taquin started deconstructing his saxophone, increasingly playing on the mouthpieces, or just the reeds, or even adding new mouthpieces to his instrument. He then began to construct his first sound sculpture, “le taquinophone” or teasaphone. Encouraged by this experience, he decided to become a leader in “lutherie sauvage” - the art of making musical instruments from objects not specifically designed for that purpose.
